 In Yanvarskogo vosstaniya street in the heart of the historic Kiev, near the Kiev-Pecherskaya Lavra, the best Ukrainian restaurant “Tsarskoye Selo” is situated.
During the Kiev Rus time, the village Berestovo was at this place, with the country palace of Kiev princes and the monasteries Pecherskiy and Nikolskiy. Near the monasteries, the Lavrskaya Slobodka (little settlement on the outskirts of the city) and the Nikolskaya Slobodka sprang up, where mostly subjects of the monastery lived. At the close of the 17th century, the construction of the Pecherskaya Fortress was initiated by the Hetman I. Samoylovich. Three stone arches leading to the fortress were built – Kiyevskaya, Vassilkovskaya and Moskovskaya. Drawbridges were thrown across the ditches. Up to this day, apart from some military buildings, the Moskovskaya and Vassilkovskaya arches have been preserved.
In September 1998, in the building where the powder-magazine of the Pecherskaya fortress lay, the restaurant was open where true gourmets can try the most delicious dishes. In “Tsarskoye Selo” (literally “Tsar’s Village”) you will really be able to eat and relax as a tsar.
The “Tsarskoye Selo Restaurant” was the first Ukrainian national restaurant and it still preserves this image. The dishes are prepared here according to ancient recipes; their historic names are preserved. In the main room, the interior using household utensils of the Ukrainian village of the 18th century was recreated. You’ll also find here live music in professional performance. The personnel wear national clothes and speak foreign languages. The highest level of service is ensured.
